The Laziness Lie

In the book Laziness Does Not Exist, the author, Devon Price, discusses an important concept of The Laziness Lie, which is the lie we often hear in our heads telling us that we always need to keep moving towards achievement, that there is no destination we are capable of getting to, and to pause is to be lazy. There was a quote in there saying, “By forever moving the goalpost and never actually allowing a person to be vulnerable and have needs, it’s setting us up for failure from the start.” This is why it is important to step back and observe the unconscious “truths” we tell ourselves about what it means to be successful, because they may not actually be helpful or achievable. Without any introspection, we leave ourselves at risk of burnout and internalizing shame about it.

By forever moving the goalpost and never actually allowing a person to be vulnerable and have needs, it’s setting us up for failure from the start.
