Our Inner Patterns Never Truly Repeat

You might notice in the name of my practice, and in my logo, that I’ve chosen an ammonite to symbolize many important ideas in what I’ve dedicated my life to. Notice how an ammonite is a spiral. A spiral has connotations for looking deeper inwards, but also for transformation and change outwards. Like the German-Swiss Poet Hermann Hesse described, "We are not going in circles, we are going upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps." I like the imagery of a spiral because it is a reminder of the change that happens within us at all points throughout life. We never truly stay in a circle, because we learn more about ourselves and the world around us, which helps us grow towards making a change. Therapy is meant to help you notice all that you gain in those cycles that happen in your life so that you can skip a few steps on the climb upwards; together you gain more intentional lessons, and you realize the strength you’ve been building all along, giving you that internal push to reach the destination you desire.

"We are not going in circles, we are going upwards. The path is a spiral; we have already climbed many steps."

~ Hermann Hesse
