World Peace is Hindered by Unhealed Trauma
Trauma is the root of all that ails humanity. Inherently, scarcity makes us become self-protective, out of a need to survive harsh conditions. That self-protection makes us hoard things, turn a blind eye to others’ suffering, makes us say cruel things, abuse others, and even causes large-scale atrocities like war. In a quote by Nevil Shute, he iterates my point succinctly, "Like some infernal monster, still venomous in death, a war can go on killing people for a long time after it’s all over." Trauma is what kills us long after the war that caused us fear has passed. Its sting is felt for years afterwards, significantly affecting our nervous system. Trauma influences our perception of the world around us, and that impacts how we interact with the world. So, in choosing to pursue healing our own trauma, we do our part to create world peace.
