You’ll Never Feel Loved if You Don’t Choose
Finding out who you are is important because that’s how you create more authentic relationships and feel more loved and connected with others. In his book, The Paradox of Choice: Why More is Less, Barry Schwartz describes choice in this way, “Choice is what enables us to tell the world who we are and what we care about.” I’ll add onto that and proclaim, how can we ever truly feel loved if someone doesn’t know who we are? How can they know who we are if we don’t know it? How do we share who we are if we don’t make choices aligned with our values and preferences? This is why delving into your identity and your values is important, and why we spend time on it in therapy, because you need to know who you are, be unafraid to share it, and see others notice your choices in order to feel understood and truly cared for.
“Choice is what enables us to tell the world who we are and what we care about.”
