You Have No Set Purpose

People often come to therapy because they seek to figure out what “their purpose” is. It can cause some distress thinking that there is a role in the world that one is meant to play, yet one was never informed about it. I enjoy the way Robert A. Heinlein puts it: "Specialization is for insects." You can be many things in your lifetime. You don’t need to have only one purpose. We, as humans, have been gifted with the capabilities to do so much with our minds and our bodies, that it’d really be a shame to only focus on only one area. The bigger goal of therapy is figuring out what you want to do and then figuring out what stops you from moving forward and actually doing it.

"Specialization is for insects."

~ Robert A. Heinlein
